I’ve got worms.
My wife, Kristen, diagnosed me with Crohn’s disease in 2004, about 9 months into our marriage. A doctor agreed with her a little while after that. I’ve been in and out of a lot of pain since then.
I contacted Garin Aglietti of wormtherapy.com last summer. I drove up to Canada to receive my shipment of hookworms in September. I had the most painful four months of my life between September and December. Which is apparently somewhat expected for worm therapy. And now I just feel completely different.
My understanding of worm therapy stems from the belief that Western society is too cleanly in its habits. The environments we spend our time in too devoid of natural contaminants. That some of our bodies have evolved to need specific foreign parasites to keep us in balance, and we just don’t do a good enough job of getting our toes dirty to make up for a lifetime spent inhaling Lysol.
So now I’ve got a culture of hookworms living in my intestines, 30 or so, seemingly keeping me in balance. They can’t reproduce and they’re easy to kill and they’ll die in about three years. My autoimmune disorder held in check by a balance of chemicals it needed external help from, due to a genetic predisposition on my part, most likely inherited from my mother.
So what I’m saying is that my guts feel good. There’s no way for me to tell you for certain that its because of the worms. If I had a team of scientists monitoring me, I’m sure they could tell you objectively why I don’t have to wince anymore when my sons want to wrestle, but there are limits to my patience for being probed.
If you have Crohn’s, or Ulcerative Colitis, or Really Bad Allergies, I encourage you to look into worm therapy. I may be a quack, but here is my nudge anyway.
I have been nothing but pleased with my service from Garin.

Fascinating dude, thanks for sharing! Glad to hear you’re feeling better. My wife has UC/IBS so i’m gonna suggest she gets some worms (she’ll probably slap me).

I first heard about worm therapy on an incredible NPR-affiliated radio program called Radio Lab. Nice to hear it works!
